There’s no point in fighting against that. Now that the various threads of the season’s storylines are coming together, the simple execution of quippy dialogue, shocking turns, and grounded character moments are tantalizing enough to hold our attention and keep us waiting in anticipation for the next twist around the corner. The two will need to earn the team’s trust if they want to succeed. While this episode easily features the least action of any this season, it also felt like the most entertaining and fastest-paced yet. To his horror, Harlan opens it to find his brother’s severed head, a clear message of aggression and grim things to come. The Lord’s brother’s horse is found in the woods with a package.
This time it comes courtesy of Lord Harlan receiving a message from a courier. It’s a big mess for the newly united royals, and its eventual discovery is yet another huge ticking timebomb.įinally, an episode of See wouldn’t be complete without a shocking final image.
Explaining that she must deliver on this promise as Queen, she invites Kofun to let her assist in helping him “hear the counsel of God.” As longtime viewers of the show will know, the process for praying in this particular world involves physically orgasming, so you can guess where this situation leads. Queen Kane clearly picks up in this sliver of loyalty and absolutely runs with it in a late moment in the episode where she confides in Kofun that she miscarried her sighted baby. Earlier in the episode, while Kofun and Haniwa share a rare quiet moment, the former defends the Queen’s aggressive maneuver ring somewhat, saying that it’s her duty to protect her kingdom through whatever means she feels necessary. When Kofu arrived at Pennsa last week, his initial interactions with the Queen were somewhat unsettling, to say the least, and it hasn’t taken long for this episode of See to go exactly where some may have feared it might. Despite these warnings, Maghra informs the two military men that she intends to go through with the diplomacy, sighting a secret plan (or several) that she simply needs to execute. Tamacti Jun and Baba Voss both urge her that this is a bad idea, and rightly surmise it is probably just a stall tactic to allow the Trivantians time to bring their armies from the west in order to mount an attack. The fact that Wren is both sighted and she helped Haniwa escape Trivantes after she fell in love with her are factors that she neglected to mention.īack in Pennsa, Maghra encounters Tamacti Jun for the first time since believing him to be dead, and she tells him of her plan to depart for Trivantes as a means of negotiating peace between them and the monarchy. His lieutenant and right-hand woman, Wren, urges him to accept the monarchy’s offers of peace despite the fact that Trivantes never attacked the kingdom in the first place as the Queen claimed - a remarkably tough sell for Edo. Tamacti Jun asks Toad to give a secret message to Maghra for them to meet later on.īack at the House of Enlightenment, Edo Voss has made himself extremely comfortable and continues his preparations to overthrow the corrupt monarchy. Later on, he is found by Tamacti Jun, who reveals himself to still be alive and very much against the Queen’s agenda to make war with Trivantes. However, it turns out he isn’t Toad’s only visitor for the day. Kofun asks Toad to be his mentor and trainer so that he can learn to fight for himself and defend his family without having to rely on others.
The verbal jabs and quippy dialogue are also some of the best moments the season has delivered so far.Įlsewhere around town, Kofun continues to deepen his relationship with Toad, the Witchunter commander who sacrificed his own crew to keep the Queen’s orders and bring Kofun back to the family safely. gives a great slice of the unique world of this show in microcosm.
The newly constructed royal family consisting of vastly different personalities, abilities, social classes, etc.
While scenes of people sitting around and talking aren’t often the most exciting moments in any TV show, this is a real highlight of the episode of See. In order to celebrate the reunification of the royal family, she throws a lavish dinner on the spot. Baba Voss takes this about as well as you’d imagine a Trivantian soldier might, but the Queen steps in before things get too ugly. In a surprise to no one, Maghra’s new husband for political reasons, Lord Harlan, interrupts the family reunion to welcome Baba Voss into his home and inform him that Maghra is now his own wife as well. The reunion between father, mother, son, and daughter is touching and feels highly satisfactory after watching each of these characters go through harrowing fits and starts to get to this point.
